If you take a closer look at the trends both on and off the catwalk this winter, you might well be amazed at what you discover, Plaits, twists, unusual partings and decorative clips, a whole host of different touches that are making a big impression. So, forget about making grand gestures or having to commit to a complete restyle, instead, every now and then you should opt for small style switches or add a well chosen accessory, its all about minimum effort for maximum impact. Think of hairstyling as similar to wearing a new belt or different shoes with a dress rather than investing in a whole new outfit.
Who is wearing hair accessories
A lister cannot rely on designer outfits to outshine competitors anymore so if their hairstyle has that little bit extra, they stand more chance of getting noticed. You only get one moment on the red carpet and hair details draw attention to the face which is the “money shot”. Take a look at the above pictures of Mila Jovovich, Rihanna, Jessica Alba and Hilary Swank. All have used small touches, changes or accessories to create a different look to their usual style.
Get the look on shorter hair
Remember not to let the detail take over your look, it should only be a feature of your style. If you decide to use accessories, make sure you keep them minimal and avoid over fussy braids or curls. Keep it relaxed and stick to a strong parting, a small flash of color or a small vintage clasp.
Get the look on long hair
The more hair you have to work with the more detail you can use in your hair. Hair swept back into a half-up do, and secured with a corsage or combed in a strong middle parting for a 70’s vibe look great on long hair as do all kinds of plaits. The key though, whatever your hair length, is to play with your look and experiment.

Here are some tips for taking care of your hair whilest you are asleep.
- Pillow Talk – Hair can catch on your usual cotton pillowcases, particularly if you toss and turn alot in your sleep. Switch to a satin or silk pillowcase so your hair is free to slide around without snagging. Silk pillowcases are also good at prolonging your blowdry until the morning because they prevent frizz.. If you dont feel like splashing out on a silk pillowcase, simply invest in a silk scarf and wrap it around your head before bed.
- Pony tail long hair – If you have very long hair or extensions, you need to stop tangling whilst you sleep to prevent breakage. Loosely tie your hair a no snag elastic band into a low pony tail or if thats uncomfortable, two bunches at the side of your head, both will keep your hair more tangle free than if it was loose.
- Braid before bedtime – Not only does braiding your hair before bed save you styling time in the morning, it creates a different type of kink no curling iron could create. If your after a tighter, crimped curl, then do smaller, tighter plaits or for boho tousles create one or two big loose ones. Simply shake out the next day for an easy peasy style
- Brush up – Get into the habit of brushing before bed to avoid a matted mess when you wake up. Choose a wide tooth comb or a boar bristle brush and section by section, work your way from the tips of your hair up to the roots. Regular brushing also promotes hair growth by stimulating scalp circulation.
- Fringe Control – If you have fringe that has a tendency to do its own thing and flick up, then take control by pinning it down with a few kirby grips to make it lye flat throughout the night. You can also use the same method for annoying cow-licks or shorter layers that rebel.
